Gadget Mania

We live in a disposable world now where every few weeks a new model phone/ipod/PDA/computer is released and the mad rush to get the latest fad starts again in earnest.

How many of us have upgraded to the latest craze or better model when there is nothing actually wrong with the one we have?

This is even more prevalent with mobile phones, between our service providers offering discounts for extended contracts and the younger generation going for bragging rights for having the first in a new range, millions of mobile phones sit collecting dust in drawers or even worse being thrown into the bin.

Why Recycle?

As with all electronic equipment, mobile phones contain a huge range of chemicals that are harmful both to health and the environment if not correctly disposed of.

All mobile phones, particularly older models will contain heavy metals such as mercury, lead and cadmium and flame retardants within the printed circuit boards.  These substances have been linked to illnesses in humans and can have a devastating effect if released to the environment.

Your Mobile Phone is Worth Cash!

Time to declutter the house, how many mobile phones do you have hidden in nooks, crannies and the deepest depths of your cupboards?

Even the oldest phones have some residual value, and last years models are fetching substantial prices. Obviously some brands and models are worth more than others.

Phones are bought by companies who refurbish, repackage and resell them to various markets. When a phone is is a bit battered and unable to be resold, it's broken up for the phones components or disposed of responsibly. They often offer much better prices that the "trade in" value when buying a new mobile phone.

Selling your mobile phones, either as an individual or a community project couldn't be easier. Most companies offer cash based on a set of specifications, so it's best to be honest.

How it works.

Visiting the companies website, fill in a form with your phone details. The Company contacts you with a price for your mobile phone. Once you accept their offer you will receive a padded envelope to mail the mobile phone to them, free post usually.

Companies will not accept responsibility for non-delivery, so if your mobile phone is worth a significant value, it is best to post it using registered signed for post.

Make sure your phone is charged and switched off. Remove the sim and memory card and ensure any pin security is disabled.

Post the mobile phone back to the company and await your cash!

This is very good information! I just went and found three old phones around the house here and I am going to try to look them up to sell. My intention has always been to recycle them, but just haven't gotten around to it...I will now! Also, thank you for the message you left me, I appreciate your comments! I look forward to being your fan, have a great day. ~ Scott
